VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR THE ABBEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2018 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, not to be denied the crown, the Abbeville High School football team drove past Barnwell 48-14 to nail the 2018 Class AA State Championship in style; and
Whereas, at the title contest, Abbeville built a 14-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back. The stadium at Columbia's Benedict College echoed with the cheers of exuberant Abbeville fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a satisfying end to a perfect 14-0 season. By the end of the title game, the Panthers' admirers were already looking with anticipation toward a repeat performance next year; and
Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Coach Jamie Nickles, with the support of his fine staff, built his football program into a championship team that refused to settle for second best; and
Whereas, it's the fourth straight state crown for the Abbeville Panthers, who won their sixth title of this decade, extended their winning streak to 22 straight, and have won 54 of their past 58; and
Whereas, the Panthers once again have given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the members of the General Assembly take great pleasure in adding their collective voice to the many encomiums flowing in to this outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor the Abbeville High School football team and coaches on their impressive win of the 2018 Class AA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Charles Costner, principal, and Coach Jamie Nickles of Abbeville High School.
