TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR KIMBERLY E. GREENE, THE SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION STATE COORDINATOR OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC., FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to commend Kimberly E. Greene for her years of service to Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc., and for her commitment to resolve vital concerns in the State and in local communities; and
Whereas, the daughter of Mrs. Dolores S. Greene and the late William J. Greene, Kimberly Greene was born in Tacoma, Washington; and
Whereas, she joined Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Charleston at a young age and served in various executive capacities within the church's programs; and
Whereas, a graduate of Bishop England High School in Charleston, Ms. Greene earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia College in Columbia and earned a master's degree in management and leadership from Webster University of St. Louis, Missouri; and
Whereas, she serves as a human resources manager at a technical college in North Charleston where she is an asset to her community through her professional experiences and volunteer activities that support education, health promotion, and family strengthening; and
Whereas, in 1994, Ms. Greene was initiated into AKA Sorority, the first Greek-letter organization established by African-American college women in the nation, and she is a member of Charleston's Gamma Xi Omega Chapter where she has served in many roles; and
Whereas, she was appointed to serve as the AKA South Atlantic Region State Coordinator and has received several commendations for her resourcefulness with voter education and registration efforts, letter writing campaigns, and strategies to inform officials on issues affecting citizens on state and local levels; and
Whereas, a former small business owner dedicated to helping businesses, individuals, and families achieve financial goals, Ms. Greene has received numerous state and national awards for her achievements and was recognized as a registered principal by the National Association of Securities Dealers; and
Whereas, she has served her community with distinction through such organizations as the Charleston Development Academy Charter School Improvement Council, Charleston County Diabetes Coalition, Charleston Area Justice Ministry, Bradley Blake Foundation, Twenty Pearls Foundation of Charleston, and Avery Institute Board of Directors at the College of Charleston; and
Whereas, by building partnerships with community organizations, foundations, and members of the General Assembly, Ms. Greene has continued her extensive community service; and
Whereas, through her distinguished service with AKA as co-state and state coordinator spanning ten years, she helped to design Day at the Capitol which offers elected and appointed officials an opportunity to interface with the prominent women of AKA and to learn about civic and social issues affecting their communities; and
Whereas, the epitome of a servant leader, Ms. Greene exemplifies sincere humility as she coordinates community town hall meetings on gun and high school violence, forums for political candidates, and a congressional summit about the unsheltered; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the keen interest with which Kimberly Greene promotes citizen and voter education, registration, and turn-out, and her work to raise awareness of the political process and the importance of collaboration and cooperation to tackle issues that impact residents around the State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Kimberly E. Greene, the South Atlantic Region State Coordinator of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., for her many years of distinguished service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Kimberly E. Greene.
