A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE ALVIN A. TAYLOR UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS FORTY-TWO YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Alvin A. Taylor upon the occasion of his retirement; and

Whereas, a native of Mullins, South Carolina, Alvin A. Taylor was born on July 6, 1953. He is an alumnus of Clemson University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economic zoology; the United States Coast Guard Law Enforcement Training Center; and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy; and

Whereas, Director Taylor has served the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in law enforcement as a private first class, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major, and colonel and deputy director, and generally as interim director and director. During his tenure, he has been the department's most vocal ambassador, positively impacting policies and programs at the state, regional, and national levels and working tirelessly with South Carolina legislators. Under his leadership, the department has been at the forefront of safety, enforcement, conservation, accessibility, and outreach efforts; and

Whereas, an active leader in his profession and community, Director Taylor has been involved with the South Carolina Floodwater Commission, Sport Fishing & Boating Partnership Council, Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies, Southeastern Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, Southern States Boating Law Administrators Association, South Carolina Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers Association, International Association of Marine Investigators, American League of Anglers and Boaters, National Safe Boating Council, and Recreational Boating and Fishing Federation; and

Whereas, throughout his distinguished career, he has received countless honors and awards, including the National Association of Conservation Law Enforcement Chiefs Legacy Award, Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Appreciation Award for Service as president, United States Fish & Wildlife Service Southeast Region Regional Director's Conservation Award, Order of the Palmetto, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators Lifetime Achievement Award, Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement, and many others; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, he has served First Baptist Church Charleston as a school board member, deacon, Sunday School teacher, and missionary; and

Whereas, Director Taylor and his wife, Marian, have two children, Lee and Wyatt, and five grandchildren, Grady, Ada-Legare, Ann-Elise, Daniel, and Marian; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the outstanding dedication that Alvin A. Taylor has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Alvin A. Taylor upon the occasion of his retirement as director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, commend him for his forty-two years of dedicated service to the State of South Carolina, and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Alvin A. Taylor.
