VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE INDIAN WATERS COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA FOR THE OUTSTANDING SERVICE PROVIDED BY A MYRIAD OF LEADERS, TO CONGRATULATE THEM AND THEIR SCOUTS FOR A CENTURY OF OUTSTANDING AND MEANINGFUL IMPACT IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO RECOGNIZE 2020 AS "INDIAN WATERS COUNCIL OF SCOUTING ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY YEAR."
Whereas, since the incorporation of the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910, its mission has been to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law which among other things states the pledge to "do duty to God and our Country and to help other people at all times"; and
Whereas, the success of Scouting has been a culmination of countless hours of selfless volunteerism by a host of leaders and by community organizations whose ideas and generosity help in shaping the lives of the young people who take up the challenge to participate in Scouting; and
Whereas, five districts comprise the Indian Water Council: Capital Rivers District, Chinquapin District, Edisto District, Etowah Creek District, and Wateree District. These districts cover Bamberg, Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Orangeburg, Richland, and Saluda, counties; and
Whereas, thousands of service hours have been contributed by scouts and leaders to the State of South Carolina and its residents, benefitting the Scouts, their families, and their communities; and
Whereas, the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America and its corps of dedicated volunteer leaders are providing necessary support to the leaders in the Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly congratulates the numerous volunteer leaders, parents, churches, and community organizations who have generously supported this values-based program to our young people over the past century, and the members look expectantly to hear of the Indian Water Council's continued success within the Palmetto State for many years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America for the outstanding service provided by a myriad of leaders, to congratulate them and their scouts for a century of outstanding and meaningful impact in the State of South Carolina, and to recognize 2020 as "Indian Waters Council of Scouting One Hundredth Anniversary Year."
