A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF FRANK C. STANTON, SR., OF NORTH AUGUSTA AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Frank C. Stanton, Sr., of North Augusta on March 8, 2020, at the venerable age of eighty-seven; and

Whereas, born in North Augusta, Frank Stanton made his home in Savannah, Georgia, for fifty years. He was a 1951 graduate of North Augusta High School, as well as a 1958 graduate of Wofford College, where he served as student body president; and

Whereas, this patriotic American was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, during which he served with the 101st Screaming Eagles in chemical warfare; and

Whereas, in God's time, he wed the lovely Clara Weeks Stanton, and the couple built a marriage that was to last until Frank passed away; and

Whereas, upon graduating from Wofford College, Frank Stanton moved to Savannah, where he became the founder and president of IndChem, Inc., a distributor of industrial chemicals with additional facilities in Augusta and Charleston. He retired in 2000 and served as a chemical consultant until 2005; and

Whereas, Mr. Stanton, a man of faith, was a founding member of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. In addition, he was past president of the Rotary Club of Savannah, member of the 1996 Olympic Sailing Venue Committee and Porter Pierpoint Club (scholarship chairman), founder of the Robert H. Demere Sailing Scholarship and Stanton Performing Arts Scholarship, and member of various boards of directors and other civic organizations; and

Whereas, following retirement, the Stantons returned to North Augusta and made their home there; and

Whereas, Frank Stanton, Sr., leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of sixty-five years, Clara Weeks Stanton; a son, Stan Stanton of Evans; a daughter, Claire (John) Wells of North Augusta; five grandchildren, Toney McCallum, Christopher Jarrett, Jennifer Claire Brantley, Tripp Stanton, and Caroline Stanton; two great-grandchildren, Chloe McCallum and Owen McCallum; and a host of other family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Frank C. Stanton, Sr., of North Augusta and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Clara Weeks Stanton for the family.
