TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR MILTON H. BURNS, JR., OF LAURENS COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MOUNTVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS FORTY-FOUR YEARS OF SELFLESS SERVICE AS A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who serve tirelessly to ensure the safety of our citizens. Milton H. Burns, Jr., of Mountville in Laurens County stands among their number as an exceptional firefighter, one much admired by colleagues and area residents alike; and
Whereas, a member of the Mountville Fire Department of the Laurens County Fire Service for forty-four years, Mr. Burns holds the distinction of being the last active charter member of his community's volunteer fire service; and
Whereas, his duties as part of the Mountville Fire Department have involved more than just fighting fires. In addition to answering fire calls, the department responds to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls, and incidents involving hazardous materials; and
Whereas, the Holy Scriptures teach us that "the greatest among you shall be your servant" (Matthew 23:11, NASB). Over decades of firefighting, Mr. Burns has proven that he has the heart of a servant leader, demonstrating unparalleled care and courage in serving his fellow citizens and neighbors; and
Whereas, grateful for the distinguished service Milton H. Burns, Jr., has steadfastly given as an outstanding firefighter for nearly half a century, the House wishes him well as he enters retirement. The members trust he will find much enjoyment in the more leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Milton H. Burns, Jr., of Laurens County on the occasion of his retirement from the Mountville Fire Department, commend him for his forty-four years of selfless service as a volunteer firefighter, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Milton H. Burns, Jr.
