VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR CINDY CLARK ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES FOR A SATISFYING AND REWARDING RETIREMENT.
Whereas, for many years, the people of South Carolina have enjoyed the benefit of the commitment, experience, and leadership of Cindy Clark, Patriots Point Institute history and programs coordinator, who is retiring soon after a distinguished career of outstanding service as an educator; and
Whereas, as a former classroom teacher, Miss Clark considers herself blessed to have taught in a traditional classroom full of students who often taught her more than she taught them, as she puts it. Today, she feels honored to be part of the Education Department aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum and attests with a grin that her classroom is much bigger now; and
Whereas, in preparation for her career, Cindy Clark earned her bachelor's degree in education at Baptist College in Charleston and her master's degree in the same field at Pensacola Christian College in Florida; and
Whereas, Miss Clark has been involved in the field of education most of her life. For the first twenty-four years of her long career, she served as a classroom teacher for grades two through eight, also serving as a supervisor for grades four through six, teaching junior-high history, and working with a developmental reading program for six years as a Trident Tech College adjunct professor; and
Whereas, in 2002, she accepted a post with a member of the United States House of Representatives, the now-retired Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr., for whom she served as scheduler, White House/Capitol tour coordinator, and office manager. In 2007, she began work with South Carolina's State Board of Education, where she was the legislative appointee representing Berkeley and Charleston counties. Among other duties, she served as chair of the Standards Committee. Following three years' service with the board, she accepted a post with South Carolinians for Responsible Government/Conservatives in Action, where she was the regional director for the Lowcountry, serving as a speaker to schools and various civic groups about educational legislation. For the past five years. Cindy has been a presenter at the Korean War Teachers' Conference, and she was secretary to the South Carolina Council of Social Studies Teachers from 2016 to 2018; and
Whereas, during her nine years with Patriot's Point Institute, she has coordinated school and youth group educational programs, trained instructors and assigned them to programs, created and written programs, presented workshops at educational conferences, coordinated the Teacher's Recertification Conference, and served as a workshop speaker; and
Whereas, over the years, Cindy Clark has seen the publication of several works of her authorship. These include Harry, I Was?!, which is the History Through Literacy reader used throughout this great State in fifth-grade classrooms (now in its sixth edition); Blessing Blogs for Believers (devotional); Miles With Malachi (children's book), the Preservation Progress Newsletter (1994-2000, Preservation Society), and Churches of the Lowcountry (contributing writer); and
Whereas, in service to her profession, Miss Clark has served as a workshop/motivational speaker since 1983. Further, this woman of faith serves the Lord as a member of Victory Baptist Church and for nearly two decades served as a fall tour docent and street chair with the Preservation Society of Charleston; and
Whereas, grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and leadership Cindy Clark has bestowed on this great State, the members of the House take great pleasure in wishing her all the best as she enters retirement and trust she will find much enjoyment in the more leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Cindy Clark on the occasion of her retirement, extend deep appreciation for her many years of distinguished service as an educator, and offer best wishes for a satisfying and rewarding retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cindy Clark.
