VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE DANAE MCNEAL ON BEING NAMED THE 2018-2019 GATORADE GIRLS' BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Danae McNeal has been named the 2018-2019 Gatorade South Carolina Girls' Basketball Player of the Year; and
Whereas, a senior at Swansea High School, Danae McNeal is the first Gatorade South Carolina Girls' Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from her school; and
Whereas, as a senior guard at Swansea, McNeal led her team to a 23-3 record and the Class 3A quarterfinals this past season. She averaged 24.5 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.7 steals, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 blocks per game; and
Whereas, McNeal has received a number of honors and awards for her basketball prowess, including three-time Class 3A Player of the Year and four-time All-State selection. McNeal has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on scholarship at Clemson University this fall; and
Whereas, academically, McNeal has excelled, maintaining a B average in the classroom; and
Whereas, outside of school, she has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and youth sports programs. She is also a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in North, South Carolina; and
Whereas, McNeal is supported in her passion for basketball by her family, namely her mother, Tamara McNeal-Purdue, and siblings, Shonta, Donta, Rodnesia, Marquis, and Lea; and
Whereas, in receiving this award, McNeal joins an elite alumni association of other South Carolina athletes who have recently won the girls' basketball award, including Amari Young, Jaelynn Murray, Jhileiya Dunlap, Kionna Jeter, and A'ja Wilson; and
Whereas, the Gatorade Player of the Year program is in its thirty-fourth year of honoring the nation's best high school athletes. The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that Danae McNeal has brought to her school, community, and State and wish her success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Danae McNeal on being named the 2018-2019 Gatorade Girls' Basketball Player of the Year for South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Danae McNeal.
