TO AMEND SECTION 2 OF ACT 926 OF 1962, RELATING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE AIKEN COUNTY COMMISSION FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION, TO ADD TWO NON-VOTING MEMBERS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. SECTION 2 of Act 926 of 1962 is amended to read:
"SECTION 2. There is hereby created, as an administrative agency of Aiken County a commission, to be known as the 'Aiken County Commission for Technical Education' (hereinafter referred to as the 'Commission'), which shall consist of nine eleven qualified registered electors of Aiken County, two of whom shall be non-voting members. All appointments to the office of the Commission shall be made by the Governor, upon the recommendation of a majority of the legislative delegation, including the Senator, from Aiken County. Of those first appointed, two shall have a term of one year, two shall have a term of two years, two shall have a term of three years, and three shall have terms of four years. Upon the expiration of the terms of office of those first appointed, successors shall be appointed for terms of four years in the same manner as provided for the original appointment. If any vacancy shall arise, a successor shall be appointed by the Governor for the balance of the unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointment was made. The members of the Commission shall hold office until their successors shall have been appointed and shall qualify. All terms of office shall terminate on the appropriate anniversary of the effective date of this act, notwithstanding that a delay in making appointments shall lessen the duration of the terms of office. As soon as practicable after the initial appointments are made, the Commission shall meet and organize by electing one of its members as chairman, another as vice chairman, and a third as secretary. A transcript of the record of the initial organization shall be filed with the Clerk of Court of Aiken County in order to reflect the initial membership of the Commission and those who shall become its officers."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
