TO COMMEND DR. KRISHNAN FOR HIS FORTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF MULLINS, MARION COUNTY, AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to honor and recognize Dr. Krishnan upon the occasion of the Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet on Monday, February 10, 2020, at which the City of Mullins will celebrate his career; and
Whereas, Gopalakrishnan Parakkat, or Dr. Krishnan, was born on July 17, 1940 in a village near the city of Cochin, in the state of Kerala in southern India; and
Whereas, Dr. Krishnan attended Sacred Heart College in Cochin; Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Science and Research in Pondicherry; and the University of Madras in southern India, where he completed a post-graduate course in surgery; and
Whereas, in February of 1966, Dr. Krishnan came to the United States to pursue further studies and ultimately completed a four-year general surgery residency and two years of fellowship training in cardiovascular surgery; and
Whereas, with an outstanding career, Dr. Krishnan is double-board certified in both general and cardiovascular surgery and has served as chief of surgery at the V.A. Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia; and
Whereas, since 1974, Dr. Krishnan has lived and worked in Marion County, where he joined Dr. Basily and Dr. Cain as a partner in a private practice. During his time in Mullins, he has also been actively involved as staff of the MUSC Marion Medical Center, where he has greatly advanced local surgical care; and
Whereas, a true humanitarian, Dr. Krishnan has been instrumental in advancing surgical practice in Marion County and is actively involved in charitable medical work through Helping Hands Clinic. He also assumed a role as Medical Director for Care and Share, a charitable international organization with multiple charitable projects in the United States and in India; and
Whereas, an active leader in his community, Dr. Krishnan has been a member of the Rotary Club of Mullins since 1974; and
Whereas, he is married to his wife, Kamalam, and together they have one daughter, Anita, and one son, Suresh; and
Whereas, Dr. Krishnan is a brilliant surgeon whose stellar career has had a positive impact on the Mullins community; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly greatly appreciate the passion and commitment that Dr. Krishnan has shown in serving the State and the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Dr. Krishnan for his forty-five years of dedicated service to the City of Mullins, Marion County, and the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Krishnan.
