TO CONGRATULATE DR. JUDY BECK UPON HER INAUGURATION AS PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHER EDUCATORS AND TO COMMEND HER FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION.
Whereas, Dr. Judy Beck is an alumna of Bowling Green State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, and she is an alumna of the University of Toledo where she earned both a Master of Education in Secondary Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction; and
Whereas, Dr. Beck's teaching career began in Ohio as a middle and high school teacher, and she transitioned to teaching in higher education in Ohio and later Wisconsin. While at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, she served as an associate professor, director of a science education center, director of a science and humanities symposium, and director of teacher education programs. Soon after, she served in several roles at the University of South Carolina Upstate, including as a professor, interim vice chancellor and executive director, and Greenville campus director of teacher education programs; and
Whereas, after serving at the University of South Carolina Upstate, Dr. Beck continued her career as dean of the School of Education at the University of South Carolina Aiken where she has accomplished a number of significant achievements, including the recent introduction of an online master's program in educator leadership. Additionally, over the years, she has extensively published articles; given national, regional, state, and local presentations; and received an impressive number of grants; and
Whereas, an active leader in her profession, Dr. Beck will now serve for 2020-2021 as president of the Association of Teacher Educators, an organization that improves teacher education for school-based and postsecondary teacher educators. With nearly one thousand three hundred members, it represents teacher educators in colleges, universities, school districts, and state education agencies; and
Whereas, Dr. Beck has served the Association of Teacher Educators through its state, regional, and national organizations in countless roles, including president; vice president; executive director; board member; executive committee member; member of many national conference planning, bylaws revision, and legislative committees; and delegate assembly representative; and
Whereas, over the years, Dr. Beck has been involved with a number of other professional and community organizations, including the Child Advocacy Center of Aiken County Board of Directors, Public Education Partners of Aiken County Board of Directors, Paris Mountain State Park, and International Center of the Upstate Board; and
Whereas, throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Beck has received many honors and awards, including a President's Service Award from the Association of Teacher Educators and five Excellence in Teaching Awards in higher education; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Dr. Judy Beck for her outstanding service to the teaching profession and for her service to the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Judy Beck upon her inauguration as president of the Association of Teacher Educators and commend her for her dedicated service in the field of education.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Judy Beck.
