TO CONGRATULATE THE CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL AND CHAPIN MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE TEAMS FOR CAPTURING NATIONAL TITLES AT THE ESPN CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS NATIONAL DANCE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP, HELD AT DISNEY WORLD.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Chapin High School (CHS) and Chapin Middle School (CMS) dance teams, dubbed the "Chapin Girls," won top honors at the ESPN Contest of Champions National Dance Team Championship, held in Orlando, Florida, at Disney World, on March 3, 2019; and
Whereas, these teams support their school athletes, peers, and community by performing at athletic and community events. Team dancers hold a cumulative 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale while practicing four to twelve hours a week after school. In addition, many team members are enrolled in ALA and are members of the National Honor Society and student government; and
Whereas, the teams give back to their community with yearly support to several charity organizations, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the holiday Families helping Families, Good Works, and Screaming Eagles; and
Whereas, with ninety-four teams from seventeen states in attendance, the ESPN Contest of Champions National Dance Team Championship offered the Chapin dancers a chance to show what they were made of--and they did so, spectacularly; and
Whereas, the CHS varsity "Chapin Girls" dance team won the national championship in the varsity pom and lyrical divisions, while the CMS "Chapin Girls" dance team won the national championship in the middle school pom division; and
Whereas, their latest triumphs mark the Chapin dancers' sixth national championship since the group's 2011 inception. These talented dance artists are under the direction of Sheryl Olecheck and Brittany Olecheck and are coached by Hayley Olecheck, Nicole Urbany, Kim Langley, and Lisa Farrel; and
Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Chapin High School and Chapin Middle School dance teams for leading with excellence, both in the classroom and on the dance floor, and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Chapin High School and Chapin Middle School dance teams for capturing national titles at the ESPN Contest of Champions National Dance Team Championship, held at Disney World.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Michael Ames of Chapin High School, Principal Anna Miller of Chapin Middle School, and Sheryl Olecheck and Brittany Olecheck, directors.
