TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JACQUALINE "JACQUIE" KASPROWSKI, PRINCIPAL OF CARDINAL NEWMAN SCHOOL, FOR THIRTEEN YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS SHE DEPARTS TO CONTINUE AS ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR THE DIOCESE OF CHARLESTON, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED JOY IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting that the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Jacqualine Kasprowski for her significant contributions to Cardinal Newman School; and
Whereas, when Mrs. Kasprowski arrived at Cardinal Newman from Ohio in 2006, one of her first duties was to head a blue-ribbon committee on the feasibility of building a new school at a different campus. The committee included sixty-eight members who were assigned to eight sub-committees which organized research and submitted its findings in a full report to Bishop Robert Baker; and
Whereas, Mrs. Kasprowski headed the capital fund drive and directed building at the new campus, and within ten years of her arrival, students moved into the fifty-acre, state-of-the-art campus, where she has maintained the high academic standards to which the students and parents of Cardinal Newman are accustomed; and
Whereas, under her leadership, the growing school of almost six hundred students in grades seven through twelve began a flexible, alternating-day, collegiate block schedule in 2008, allowing for the curriculum inclusion of high-interest elective courses, as well as advanced-placement and college-credit programs; and
Whereas, Mrs. Kasprowski added career and STEM courses, which include robotics, Engineering I and II, Law I and II, an introduction to sports medicine and athletic training, and an introduction to art therapy, and she introduced a pilot program for remote classroom-learning opportunities in 2018-2019 that will be used by other diocesan-owned secondary schools in 2019-2020; and
Whereas, to foster camaraderie among seventh and eighth graders, she implemented a HOUSE system for the junior high in 2010, giving them a separate identity from the high school; and
Whereas, Mrs. Kasprowski brought the DeLaSalle Program to Cardinal Newman, a full-inclusion program for students with cognitive challenges; and
Whereas, she helped to establish and then administer the St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship Fund, now Exceptional SC, which awards students with diagnosed learning differences tuition grants that enable them to attend Catholic schools in the diocese; and
Whereas, perhaps Mrs. Kasprowski's signature achievement since 2006 has been the creation of a quality school music program, which blossomed from only a music appreciation course to include courses in music theory, beginning band, piano studio, and organ academy, as well as Cardinal Chorale that sang at Carnegie Hall in 2018, Honor Choir, Concert Band, and a marching band, all by 2019; and
Whereas, together with her beloved husband, Darryl, she reared two fine daughters, Darra Cover and Gayle Gilbert, and they have blessed her with the affection of eleven grandchildren; and
Whereas, from an office filled with crosses and angels that bespeak her faith, Mrs. Kasprowski has been a keen source of inspiration to those around her as she seeks to motivate them with the words of her favorite saying: "There is a pearl of great price within you. May you always honor the greatness of your soul and nurture that place of being from which others drink deeply"; and
Whereas, aware of the grace of God that brought the new campus into existence, she appreciates the strong support of so many people in the school family who helped to make the effort a reality, while she has valued the privilege of watching students grow through the many opportunities afforded at Cardinal Newman; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Jacquie Kasprowski has devoted to Cardinal Newman School, helping to make a dream a reality, and the members wish her many years of continued achievement and joy in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jacqualine "Jacquie" Kasprowski, principal of Cardinal Newman School, for thirteen years of exemplary service as she departs to continue as associate director of secondary education for the Diocese of Charleston, and wish her continued joy in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jacqualine "Jacquie" Kasprowski.
