TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CALHOUN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COLLETON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, DARLINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE, AND SUMTER SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND THEIR LEADERSHIP AND NUTRITION PROFESSIONALS AT THE DISTRICT AND SCHOOL LEVEL, FOR GOING THE EXTRA MILE FOR HUNGRY CHILDREN IN OUR STATE AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR BEING SCHOOL BREAKFAST LEADERS DURING THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that South Carolina was one of only six states selected to participate in the School Breakfast Leadership Institute and five school districts across the state were part of this effort to combat the serious challenge of childhood hunger in our state; and
Whereas, Calhoun County Public Schools, Colleton County School District, Darlington County School District, Richland County School District One, and Sumter School District undertook new strategies to increase the number of students starting their day with healthy breakfast, and collectively thirty-eight schools have implemented changes to their breakfast programs during the 2018-2019 school year; and
Whereas, these five school districts have recognized the benefits of school breakfast in helping students get the nutrition they need to learn and succeed in school, perform better on standardized tests, have better attendance, and fewer behavioral issues; and
Whereas, these five school districts leveraged resources and innovations to meet their students' needs and served school breakfast in new and alternate methods such as Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab n' Go, and Second Chance Breakfast; and
Whereas, under the able leadership of school nutrition professionals in Calhoun, Colleton, Darlington, Richland, and Sumter Counties, these school districts have made breakfast options not only healthy, but wholesome, and in compliance with complex nutrition requirements but also appealing to children and teenagers; and
Whereas, these Breakfast Champions have worked tirelessly to promote participation in the breakfast program and to connect hungry children with healthy food; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in celebrating work of such noble aims and accomplishments which benefits the children of our state. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Calhoun County Public Schools, Colleton County School District, Darlington County School District, Richland County School District One, and Sumter School District, and their leadership and nutrition professionals at the district and school level, for going the extra mile for hungry children in our state and congratulate them for being school breakfast leaders during the 2018-2019 school year.
