TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF JOHNNIE DAVIS OF ORANGEBURG AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Johnnie Davis of Orangeburg on July 5, 2019, at the venerable age of seventy-six; and
Whereas, born June 8, 1943, in Orangeburg, Johnnie Davis was the son of Thomas Davis and Ellen Thomas Davis and attended the public schools of Calhoun County; and
Whereas, he was employed at Southeastern Concrete as a welder for many years; and
Whereas, in God's good time, Johnnie wed the former Mary E. Houser, and the two made a home together. This caring, dear man loved his precious wife and family; and
Whereas, Johnnie Davis leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary E. Houser Davis; three children, Melvin (Rayetta) Davis of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sylvia (Troy) Haynes of Orangeburg, and Sandra (James) Williams of Swansea; five stepdaughters, Willie Mae Johnson of Orangeburg, Carrie Mae (Calvin) Haynes of St. Matthews, Bernestine Haynes of Orangeburg, Emma (Bruce) Hook of North, and Annie (Roger) Brimfield of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Jamesha, Jaliyah, Jakira, Jaquez, Troy, Jr., and TyKerria; one great-granddaughter, Journei; thirteen other grandchildren; three sisters, Geriden (Roger) Ancrum, Mary (Harry) Lewis, and Lillie Mae McDaniel; three brothers, Henry (Bernice) Davis, Joe (Marie) Davis, and Emyers Davis, all of Orangeburg; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the passing of Johnnie Davis of Orangeburg and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Mary E. Houser Davis for the family.
