TO CONGRATULATE ZACHARY CONKLIN OF CHEROKEE COUNTY FOR HIS REMARKABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA AND TO SALUTE HIM UPON ACHIEVING THE CELEBRATED RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT, THE HIGHEST AWARD IN SCOUTING.
Whereas, recently, Zachary Conklin of Troop 320 of the Palmetto Council successfully passed his Eagle Scout Board of Review and thus completed the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout; and
Whereas, the son of Allen and Melanie Conklin, this Blacksburg High School senior is an honor student and captain of the marching band. After high school graduation, he hopes to attend Winthrop University with the goal of becoming a teacher; and
Whereas, during his years in Scouting, Zachary has served as senior troop guide and Order of the Arrow representative for his troop, which is sponsored by Hopewell Baptist Church of Blacksburg, and has served in staff positions at council-level youth training and at summer camp. He also has attended the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree; and
Whereas, Zachary officially will receive the rank of Eagle Scout on Saturday, February 8, 2020; and
Whereas, for his Eagle project, on August 28, 2019, Zachary and his troop presented twenty-four book bags of school supplies to his school for the benefit of underprivileged students. Zachary raised the funds for this project by selling snack items and through donations; and
Whereas, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must demonstrate that he lives by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life; he must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or his community; and he must earn a total of twenty-one merit badges, actively serve in a position of responsibility within his troop for six months, take part in a Scoutmaster conference, and complete his Eagle Scout Board of Review; and
Whereas, only about six percent of Boy Scouts complete these rigorous requirements to achieve the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is grateful for the legacy of Scouting in America and takes great pride in acknowledging the achievements of young South Carolinians like Zachary Conklin who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to enrich their local communities and our State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Zachary Conklin of Cherokee County for his remarkable accomplishments in the Boy Scouts of America and salute him upon achieving the celebrated rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Scouting.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Zachary Conklin.
