TO CELEBRATE THE PENDLETON HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND AND BAND DIRECTORS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO APPLAUD THEM FOR CAPTURING THE 2019 SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, no strangers to scaling the heights of achievement, the members of the Pendleton High School marching band showed their championship form once again and earned the pleasure of hoisting their second consecutive trophy as winners of the South Carolina Band Directors Association Class AA state crown; and
Whereas, Saturday, October 26, 2019, saw the reigning champion, the "Pride of Pendleton" marching band, vying for its sixth overall state title at Spring Valley High School. These young musicians, led by drum major Mary Corley, bagged the gold with a score of 89.3, defeating nearest competitor Gilbert High School; and
Whereas, the band's 2019 show, "... And on the 8th Day," included music from The Dustbowl Symphony by Nanci Griffith, Southern Harmony by Donald Grantham, and "Simple Gifts." The show was inspired by, and based upon, a speech by Paul Harvey, "On the 8th Day, God Made a Farmer"; and
Whereas, despite changes in the band's roster as new members join each year, the Pride of Pendleton players come out on top so frequently because Pendleton High has cultivated a tradition of excellence that pushes its musicians through each competition and brings home the victory; and
Whereas, Director of Bands Chris Moss, Assistant Director of Bands Maggie Walters, as well as Leslie Gilreath and Brady Hartness, music designers, teamed with their exceptional instructional staff to make sure their performers did not forget this important principle: The necessary hard work that leads to a state crown must be done all over again every year if you want to keep winning. These young Bulldog musicians did not let their instructors down; and
Whereas, the House, looking forward to hearing of more proud moments for the Pride of Pendleton marching band, delights in paying tribute to this consistently superlative musical ensemble for taking home the 2019 state title. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Pendleton High School marching band and band directors on an outstanding season and applaud them for capturing the 2019 South Carolina Band Directors Association Class AA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Brian Couch and Director of Bands Chris Moss of Pendleton High School.
