TO CONGRATULATE TRAVELERS REST HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR THOMAS ROBERT JANOSKY ON HIS APPOINTMENT TO THE UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY IN ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, CLASS OF 2024.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Thomas Robert Janosky, a senior at Travelers Rest High School, has been selected to receive an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he will be a member of the Class of 2024; and
Whereas, known as a disciplined student with natural leadership abilities, Thomas "Tommy" Janosky also has proven himself as a scholar. At his school, he is a member of the National Honor Society (president), Spanish National Honor Society, and Beta Club (president), and he works with student government (senior class representative). This well-rounded young man further has participated in football and track and field, as well as cross country, and was a student athletic trainer. At church, he is a member of the Youth Worship Team; and
Whereas, among his numerous honors is participation in the 2019 United States Military Academy Summer Leadership Experience Session 1 and 2019 Palmetto Boys State. He also earned a varsity football letter and was selected as team captain in his junior year. In 2019, he further was selected to receive the Martin Luther King Award for Outstanding Achievement in Leadership and the USC-Aiken Outstanding Scholar Award. He earned the highest SAT Verbal Score at his school; and
Whereas, in addition, he has served as youth music minister at Forestville Baptist Church since June 2019, served on his school's New Principal Search Committee, and is a former "beat writer" for his high school newspaper; and
Whereas, in preparation for his future, Tommy gained valuable work experience as a 2019 summer intern with Upstate Warrior Solution, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving veterans in the Upstate of South Carolina. Working with that worthy organization, he saw firsthand the various and rarely recognized issues facing veterans today. He also gained insight into the differences between branches in the military and the relationship between officers and enlisted men. In serving at Parris Landscaping in the Upstate, Tommy learned the value of hard work through manual labor, as well as how to schedule and complete tasks in a timely manner while simultaneously adapting to unexpected complications and circumstances. His previous work experience also includes employment with Chick-fil-A and Rocky Pastures Farm; and
Whereas, volunteer experience also has shaped Thomas Janosky. He has volunteered with Berea First Baptist Church (music minister for Kentucky Missions and New York City Mission) and Travelers Rest High School; and
Whereas, proud of this fine young man's accomplishments, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting Thomas Robert Janosky on receiving such a signal honor as appointment to one of our nation's service academies, and the members extend best wishes as he prepares to begin his studies at the Naval Academy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Travelers Rest High School senior Thomas Robert Janosky on his appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Class of 2024.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Thomas Robert Janosky.
