TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF EMMA RAYE CAPERS OF CHARLESTON COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST COMPASSION TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Emma Raye Capers at the age of seventy-seven on Friday, September 4, 2020; and
Whereas, born in St. George on May 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mamie Toomer; and
Whereas, Mrs. Capers and her beloved husband, the late Joseph Capers, enjoyed a large family. She was also predeceased by her daughter Renee Smalls, her brother Stanley Lewis, and her granddaughter Priscilla Lewis; and
Whereas, left to cherish her memory are her son, Jasper Lewis, and his wife, Carolyn; her daughter Maxine Lewis; and her grandchildren: ReZsaun Lewis and his wife, Latoya; Re'Carlo Lewis; Re'Mone Lewis and his wife, Indiah; and Nakeba Heyward. She was blessed with the affection of twelve great-grandchildren. She also shared the love of her sister Olga Burns, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and devoted friends.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Emma Raye Capers and for the example she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sympathy upon the passing of Emma Raye Capers of Charleston County and extend their deepest compassion to her large and loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Emma Raye Capers.
