VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 59-63-45, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO REIMBURSEMENTS FOR A STUDENT ATTENDING ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE PER PUPIL COST FOR A STUDENT ATTENDING A NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ORDER TO ATTEND A PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SCHOOL THAT IS OFFERING FIVE DAYS EACH WEEK OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION, MUST BE TRANSFERRED TO THE NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT OR PRIVATE SCHOOL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 59-63-45 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding an appropriately lettered subsection to read:
"( ) If a student attends a school in a school district in which he is not a resident, in order to attend a public or private school that is offering five days each week of in person instruction, as provided in this section, the per pupil cost for that student must be transferred to the new school district or private school in which the student is attending to offset any costs the family may owe pursuant to subsection (A)."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies to school years after 2020-2021.
