VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JEANNE HOPE MCCASKILL, RECENTLY RETIRED STAFF MEMBER SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE WORD PROCESSING CENTER, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude for the significant contributions to this body of Hope McCaskill who began a well-deserved retirement on November 3, 2020; and
Whereas, born in Camden, Ms. McCaskill is the daughter of the late Daniel D. and Betty Lou McCaskill and began her career in state government working briefly in the seventies in the Financial Aid Office at the Airport Campus of Midlands Technical College; and
Whereas, on January 2, 1996, she began her career with the South Carolina House of Representatives when she was hired by former director Steve Elliott and the late Ruby Leverette, supervisor of the department; and
Whereas, Ms. McCaskill spent her entire career at the House with the Word Processing Center, which, when she joined the team in 1996, was housed on the third floor with no outer windows. Shortly thereafter, Word Processing was relocated to the second floor in a larger, airy office; and
Whereas, during the second floor history of the Center, she worked with Sara Scipio, Alfreda Crum, Vivian Rutland, and Donna Hicks. After Mrs. Leverette's retirement in 1998, Vivian Rutland was appointed to serve as supervisor. From 1998, Hope, Sara, Alfreda, and Vivian worked as a team until 1999, when they were joined by Donna, for the combined total of Hope's twenty-four years in Word Processing; and
Whereas, Ms. McCaskill worked during the tenure of House Speakers David H. Wilkins, Robert W. Harrell, Jr., and James H. Lucas. She retired under Clerk Charles F. Reid; and
Whereas, she witnessed many advancements in technology during nearly a quarter of a century and was especially happy to use "Turbo Charlie," the center's letter folding machine; desktop Brother label printer; and the "Okie" envelope printer; and
Whereas, she plans to spend many happy hours of retirement with her faithful canine companion, Spanky, by her side and enjoying time to read all the books on her list while sipping Diet Coke; and
Whereas, grateful for her many years of unparalleled dedication to the South Carolina House of Representatives, the members take great pleasure in extending best wishes to Hope McCaskill as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jeanne Hope McCaskill, recently retired staff member of the South Carolina House Word Processing Center, upon the occasion of her retirement after twenty-four years of exemplary service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jeanne Hope McCaskill.
