VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF DUBOSE "BOSIE" RIVERS MARTIN OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of DuBose "Bosie" Rivers Martin at the age of sixty-five on Tuesday, April 20, 2021; and
Whereas, born in Winnsboro on March 16, 1956, he was the son of the late Mary McMaster Boulware Martin and Senator John Alfred Martin. The young Bosie graduated from Fairfield High School and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Martin trained extensively with the State Trooper Organization as a young man and later became manager for the Clerk of the State Senate; and
Whereas, after a more than forty-year career of serving the State of South Carolina, he retired from the South Carolina Education Lottery, having operated in the security and investigations and the information technology departments; and
Whereas, a son of The American Legion, Mr. Martin was committed to mentoring youth and sponsoring wholesome programs in the community. He was a faithful member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he served the congregation on the security committee and as an usher; and
Whereas, for thirty years, Mr. Martin was a devoted member of his Lodge where he served as past Worshipful Master of Pacific Masonic Lodge 325. He was honored to serve as Senior Steward and Tyler for the State Grand Lodge. A 33rd degree Mason for the Scottish Rite, he cherished receiving his white hat; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Gordon Martin, he reared four fine children: Sally Vernon, Mary Hollis Clarkson, Beth Cohen, and Rivers Martin. His children blessed him with the affection of two loving grandchildren, Eliza and Sullivan Vernon; and
Whereas, an avid fan of all Gamecock athletics, especially the women's basketball team, Mr. Martin served as a president of the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Bosie Martin and for the example of cherished friendship and gracious kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of DuBose "Bosie" Rivers Martin of Richland County and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of DuBose "Bosie" Rivers Martin.
