VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE RACHEL GLENN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA TRACK AND FIELD TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2021 NCAA WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE HIGH JUMP AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, pleased to learn the news, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives applaud the University of South Carolina's (UofSC's) Rachel Glenn, who won the high jump at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field championships, held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Eugene, Oregon; and
Whereas, the Gamecock freshman won the title with a jump of 1.93 meters (6 feet, 4 inches). It is the 26th individual national championship in school history; and
Whereas, she qualified for the event with a mark of 1.91 meters, second best in the nation coming into the meet. She also qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will take place the week after outdoor nationals; and
Whereas, Rachel Glenn is the first true freshman to win in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in fifteen years. Further, she is the first UofSC national champion in the high jump since 2015, when future Olympian Jeannelle Scheper won the title; and
Whereas, Glenn cleared seven bars on the way to the national title; and
Whereas, this is the California native's second time at the NCAA championship level. Glenn qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and used three personal records to propel herself to a national runner-up finish; and
Whereas, UofSC women's track and field assistant head coach Delethea Quarles watched proudly as Glenn hoisted the title trophy; and
Whereas, with admiration, the House of Representatives adds its collective voice of praise to the many tributes flowing in to this fine athlete on her remarkable achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Rachel Glenn of the University of South Carolina track and field team on capturing the 2021 NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the high jump and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Rachel Glenn.
