VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE DALLAS WISE OF COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY ON WINNING A SILVER MEDAL IN THE HIGH JUMP AT THE TOKYO 2020 PARALYMPIC GAMES, HELD AUGUST 24-SEPTEMBER 5, 2021.
Whereas, Coastal Carolina's Dallas Wise made history once again this week, as the junior track & field standout became not only the first Chanticleer ever to compete at the Paralympic Games but also the first-ever Chanticleer student-athlete to medal for Team USA at the Olympics or Paralympics; and
Whereas, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, the Dutch Fork High School graduate and U.S. Paralympic All-American earned the first medal of his Paralympic career when he won the silver medal in the men's T47 high jump event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with a mark of 2.06 meters; and
Whereas, in a great show of sportsmanship, Dallas Wise and Nishad Kumar of India shared the silver medal in the high jump with identical marks of 2.06 meters in the event, second only to gold medalist and USA teammate Roderick Townsend and his world record of 2.15 meters; and
Whereas, Dallas looked to win his second medal at the games in Tokyo as he competed in the men's T46/47 long jump event. The South Carolina native turned in a leap of 7.30 meters to place fourth overall and just miss out on the podium by 0.04 meters; and
Whereas, earlier this summer, he was named to the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field national team and the 2020 Paralympic Team. He became the first Chanticleer in school history to qualify for the United States at the 2020 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials, earning first-place finishes in both the long jump and high jump in the T/F47 classification. Dallas's coach at Coastal Carolina, Sandy Fowler, couldn't be prouder of this fine athlete; and
Whereas, according to Paralympic Games classification, T/F45, T/F46, and T/F47 are for athletes with arm deficiency, impaired muscle power, or impaired passive range of movement in arms. Athletes compete in a standing position; and
Whereas, with great pleasure, the members of the House salute Dallas Wise on his outstanding achievements and look to hear of his further accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Dallas Wise of Coastal Carolina University on winning a silver medal in the high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, held August 24-September 5, 2021.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dallas Wise.
