A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ELLEN WILLIAMS ANDERSON OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING AND MEANINGFUL SERVICE TO THE FOREST HEIGHTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in commending citizens like Ellen Anderson who engage in our communities with profound benefit to their neighbors; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on April 27, 1947, she is the seventh child of Robert and Victoria Williams, and she graduated from Hopkins High School in 1966; and

Whereas, Mrs. Anderson married her beloved husband, the late Frank "Bank" Anderson, and in 1971, the Andersons purchased a home in the Crane Forest subdivision and welcomed the birth of their son, Frank A. "Tony" Anderson; and

Whereas, she held several jobs during her professional career and retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Haskell Heights First Baptist Church, she is an active member of the choir and has coordinated numerous trips and events on behalf of the seniors in the Senior Ministry; and

Whereas, Mrs. Anderson has served for a number of years as president of the Forest Heights Community Association, working closely with elected officials and community leaders for the betterment of the surrounding neighborhoods; and

Whereas, she organizes such community events as bingo games, back to school supply drives, Easter egg hunts, fish fries, and Christmas drop-ins; and

Whereas, during the 1000 Year Flood in 2015, Mrs. Anderson helped the community to recover by organizing water stations and providing meals to those in need. The Forest Heights Community Association banded together and successfully provided much needed services for weeks to those effected by the flood; and

Whereas, under her leadership, the association combatted the COVID pandemic by operating testing and vaccination stations and providing PPE to the community; and

Whereas, a fifty-year resident of Forest Heights, Mrs. Anderson, on most days, can be found working in her yard, planting flowers, or chatting with family, neighbors, and friends; and

Whereas, those seeking political influence in the area work to establish a relationship with this prominent leader and try to emulate her devotion to her family, her church, and her community; and

Whereas, she counts herself blessed to enjoy the affection of two fine grandchildren, Kelli Cunningham and Amaya Anderson, and always desiring the best for those she encounters, she has learned the value of ardent prayer for others. She is a prayer warrior; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply grateful to Ellen Williams Anderson for her legacy of dedicated service to the Forest Heights Community Association, her community, her church, and her family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
