A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MICHAEL TANNER WOODY OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HIS NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON ACHIEVING THE PRESTIGIOUS RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT, THE HIGHEST AWARD IN SCOUTING.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Michael Tanner Woody of Troop 63 successfully completed the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout January 17, 2022; and

Whereas, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must demonstrate that he lives by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life; he must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or his community; and he must earn a total of twenty-one merit badges, actively serve in a position of responsibility within his troop for six months, take part in a Scoutmaster conference, and successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review; and

Whereas, only about five percent of Boy Scouts complete these rigorous requirements to achieve the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; and

Whereas, as a Cub Scout with Pack 63, Tanner Woody earned the Arrow of Light, the highest rank of Cub Scouts, prior to joining Boy Scouts of America Troop 63 at Old St. Andrews Parish Church; and

Whereas, he has served almost every position of leadership in his Troop and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's honor society. He has served on the staff of Camp Ho Non Wah, a Scouting camp located on Wadmalaw Island, and he has served as a staff member for the Boy Scouts of America National Youth Leadership Training; and

Whereas, his Eagle project involved building a fire pit and patio for his Troop's chartered organization, Old St. Andrews Parish Church, the oldest church in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the fire pit will be used for the church's annual Memorial Day weekend flag retirement services which are staffed by his Troop. It is also being used for a variety of community outreach activities and youth events; and

Whereas, Tanner Woody, who is also autistic, has thrived in the Scouting community; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the legacy of Scouting in America and take great pride in acknowledging the accomplishments and milestones of young South Carolinians like Tanner Woody who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to enrich their local communities and our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Michael Tanner Woody of Richland County for his noteworthy achievements in the Boy Scouts of America and congratulate him upon achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Scouting.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Tanner Woody.
