A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ABBY LYNN STILES BRUNSON OF CHESTER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was saddened to learn of the death of Abby Lynn Stiles Brunson at the age of sixty-two on Sunday, February 27, 2022; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on October 14, 1959, Abby Lynn Stiles was reared in a loving family, the daughter of Judy Knuth Stiles and the late Charles Kenneth "Moose" Stiles, with siblings Julie Stiles Talley of Troy, Missouri, and Charles Kenneth "Chuck" Stiles; and

Whereas, she graduated from Spring Valley High School and attended the University of South Carolina and Winthrop University, and she earned a bachelor's degree from Ashford University; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brunson's career as an educator began at the Mount Dearborn Kindergarten, and she spent the next twenty-five years as an educator in the Chester County School District, serving with deep joy and purpose in shaping the minds of the next generation; and

Whereas, her last position was as a global career development facilitator for the middle and high schools in Chester County; and

Whereas, devoted to her local community, she served the people of Great Falls and Chester County, securing a prosperous future for Great Falls as a member of Chester County Chamber of Commerce and chairman of its board; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brunson actively served on many local nonprofit organizations, including on the Board of Directors for Great Falls Referral and Assistance Service Project (GRASP) and the Board of Trustees for the Arras Foundation; and

Whereas, she was honored to have served with Troop 176 of the Boy Scouts of America, the Flopeye Fish Festival Committee, First Steps of Chester County, and as a PTO president; and

Whereas, a faithful member of the Great Falls Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Brunson served the congregation as a member of the choir and as a Sunday school teacher; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband of thirty-eight years, John Wesley Brunson, Jr., she reared two fine sons, John Wesley "JW" Brunson III of Nashville, Tennessee, and Stiles Harrison Brunson of Great Falls; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brunson dearly loved her extended family, including her nieces and nephews: Michal Smith, Kent Stiles, Joel Talley, Thomas Stiles, Hallie Dock, Brandon Lucas, Brittany Brunson, and Katie Brunson.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the life and legacy of Abby Lynn Brunson and for the example of service and dedication she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Abby Lynn Stiles Brunson of Chester County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Abby Lynn Stiles Brunson.
