TO HONOR AND COMMEND MASTER TROOPER DAVID G. JONES OF LEXINGTON UPON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL STATEWIDE TROOPER OF THE YEAR FOR 2021 AND TO EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY AND THIS GREAT STATE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House are pleased to learn that the outstanding work of South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper David G. Jones of Lexington has earned him recognition as statewide Trooper of the Year for 2021; and

Whereas, this prestigious honor is awarded to troopers who give exceptional service under extraordinary circumstances, as did Master Trooper Jones in May 2021, when he saved the life of a drowning child; and

Whereas, on May 26, 2021, Master Trooper Jones had just sat down to work on his computer after completing his shift, when he heard screams from next door. He immediately got up and ran to the back of his neighbor's house, where he saw 2-year-old Landon being retrieved by his mother from a pool in which he was floating face down. Landon's mother handed him to Master Trooper Jones, who observed that Landon was blue in the face and unresponsive; and

Whereas, Master Trooper Jones promptly gave Landon several back thrusts and then several mouth-to-mouth breaths, followed by a repeat of the process. At this point, Landon began bringing up large amounts of water, and Master Trooper Jones responded by giving Landon additional back thrusts. Landon continued to expel water and eventually started breathing on his own; and

Whereas, in about ten minutes, Lexington County deputies arrived, followed by EMS, which transported Landon to Prisma Health Children's Hospital in Columbia. As a result of Master Trooper Jones's quick actions, Landon has made a full recovery and is doing very well; and

Whereas, a native of Lexington, Master Trooper Jones and his wife, Amanda, reside there with their two sons, Sutton and Hampton. In his community, in the broader community of South Carolina, and in other parts of the country where he from time to time renders volunteer service, Master Trooper Jones maintains an unwavering desire and willingness to serve others, thereby representing the very best of the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, grateful for his exemplary work on behalf of the citizens of this State, the members of the South Carolina House take great pleasure in saluting Master Trooper David G. Jones on being named 2021 Trooper of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and commend Master Trooper David G. Jones of Lexington upon being named South Carolina Highway Patrol statewide Trooper of the Year for 2021 and express deep gratitude for his meritorious service to the citizens of his community and this great State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Master Trooper David G. Jones.
