TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CAROLYN MURRAY, NEWS ANCHOR FOR WCBD TV IN CHARLESTON, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES OF OUTSTANDING JOURNALISM.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is deeply grateful for newscasters, such as Carolyn Murray, and their the exceptional journalism which provides vital information to the citizens in their communities; and
Whereas, Ms. Murray earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1988 and immediately began working for WPAL AM and WMGL FM radio stations; and
Whereas, her broadcasting career moved her in front of the camera in 1989 at WCSC TV in Charleston where she worked for twelve years; and
Whereas, Ms. Murray served at WBBM TV in Chicago for two years before returning to Charleston in 2003 to work at WCBD TV where she currently anchors the 5, 6, 10, and 11 o'clock newscasts Monday through Friday evenings; and
Whereas, in 2021, she broadened her journalistic career to include podcasting when she began hosting a weekly program, Let's Talk; and
Whereas, throughout her career, Ms. Murray has earned numerous journalistic awards for consumer and medical reporting, including three Emmy Awards and six Emmy nominations, as well as awards from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and South Carolina Associated Press for anchoring and reporting. Most recently she was honored as the 2021 Best News Anchor and for the 2021 Best Podcast from RTDNA; and
Whereas, dedicated to her community, Ms. Murray serves on the board of directors of Neighbors Together, the Charleston Animal Society, First Tee of Greater Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina Neuroscience Advisory Board. Through her membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she extends her concern to the broader community; and
Whereas, an accomplished runner, she has completed ten marathons, twenty-seven Cooper River Bridge Runs, and dozens of other road races. She is a certified spin instructor, practices yoga daily, and is currently enrolled in swimming lessons; and
Whereas, Ms. Murray and her beloved husband, Jimmy, are the proud parents of a daughter, Reese, a rescue dog, Mike, and a rescue cat, Hershey; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that Carolyn Murray has brought to her community and to the Palmetto State through her journalism, and the members wish her continued success in her journalistic career. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Carolyn Murray, news anchor for WCBD TV in Charleston, and congratulate her for more than three decades of outstanding journalism.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Carolyn Murray.
