VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE MORRIS BROWN COLLEGE ON REGAINING ITS FULL ACCREDITATION STATUS AND TO WISH THE COLLEGE MUCH SUCCESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that on April 26, 2022, Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, received full accreditation status; and
Whereas, the Virginia-based Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools voted to grant Morris Brown the status, which allows Morris Brown students to apply for federal loans and Pell grants; and
Whereas, in order to achieve full accreditation, the college had to deal successfully with several challenges. Its diligence in doing so has brought the college much well-deserved praise; and
Whereas, a private Methodist historically black liberal arts college, Morris Brown College was founded in 1881 by the Georgia Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and named for one of its bishops. It was the first educational institution in Georgia to be owned and operated entirely by African Americans; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House takes much pleasure in saluting Morris Brown College on achieving this long-sought and worthy goal. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Morris Brown College on regaining its full accreditation status and wish the college much success in the years to come.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Kevin E. James, president of Morris Brown College, on behalf of the college.
