VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF BOBBY LUNN OF LEXINGTON COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Bobby Lunn
at the age of seventy-one on Sunday, August 7, 2022; and
Whereas, born in Darlington County on January 30, 1951, he attended Mayo High School in Darlington and was enrolled in Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School from June 1968 to April 1973; and
Whereas, Mr. Lunn attended Columbia Commercial College in Columbia and was employed from 1980 to 1989 as a maintenance specialist at South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation; and
Whereas, for the next ten years, he was employed as a maintenance specialist for the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Aeronautics Division. In 1999, Mr. Lunn returned to Wil Lou Gray as a loyal and dedicated maintenance employee until his death; and
Whereas, a resident of Springdale, Mr. Lunn worshiped at Platt Springs United Methodist Church where he provided lawn care for the church grounds. He helped to provide turkeys and hams to local churches for Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays to be distributed to needy families in the area; and
Whereas, a faithful community advocate, Mr. Lunn participated in fundraisers for area high schools and for the Lexington Youth Baseball League, as well as the popular Lexington County Municipal Association's "Backyard Barbeque" under then mayor and his longtime friend, Pat Smith. The event included governors and their families, area public officials, law enforcement, and community volunteers; and
Whereas, he cooked for needy families in the area and prepared pregame meals for local high school football teams. He cooked for the Town of Springdale's 60th Anniversary and coordinated meals for special community events, including the Town of Springdale 2022 Summer Fest, as well as the town's National Night Out which drew hundreds of area families and children; and
Whereas, Mr. Lunn spearheaded many barbeque fundraisers for the annual Cindy Roof Wilkerson Foundation, which raised thousands of dollars towards the development of the Healthy Fitness Zone at Springdale Elementary School, in addition to local fundraising to help families with medical expenses; and
Whereas, he graciously gave his time and talents to mentor young men at Boys Day Out at Busbee Creative Arts Academy in Lexington Two School District; and
Whereas, a dedicated Gamecock fan, Mr. Lunn assisted with University of South Carolina Coaching Clinics for local area high schools during the Brad Scott and Lou Holtz eras; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the life and legacy of Bobby Lunn and for the example of devotion and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Bobby Lunn of Lexington County and extend their deepest sympathy to his loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bobby Lunn.
