TO CONGRATULATE KATHRYN ROGERS "KATHY" PADGETT UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS MANAGER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE HOUSE TOUR OFFICE, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MORE THAN SIX YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Kathryn Rogers "Kathy" Padgett upon the occasion of her retirement as the highly regarded manager of the South Carolina State House Tour Office on April 30, 2021; and
Whereas, a native of Marion, Kathy Padgett is the daughter of Windell Cecil Rogers and the late Grace Brown Rogers. She is an alumna of Clemson University, where she earned a bachelor's degree, and Francis Marion University, where she earned a master's degree in remedial education; and
Whereas, in her early career, Kathy was a writer and reporter for The Sun News in Myrtle Beach; and
Whereas, upon finding her calling as an educator, Kathy dedicated herself to teaching social studies for thirty-two years, serving at Marion High School, Latta High School, and Dutch Fork High School. She also coached varsity track and girls' varsity basketball; headed the Teacher Cadet program and the Freshman Success Program and Curriculum; provided students with voter education; and served as a department head, Model UN sponsor, and Mock Trial coordinator; and
Whereas, over the course of her teaching career, Kathy received a number of grants, honors, and awards, including the Pee Dee Education Foundation Grant, the Education Improvement Act Grant, a South Carolina Institute for Government and Political Science scholarship, membership in the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority, and a Who's Who Among American Teachers nomination; and
Whereas, in 2014, Kathy joined the State House Tour Office as a part-time tour guide and was promoted to State House Tour Office manager later that year. Since that time, she has managed the State House Tour Office and Gift Shop and its staff; scheduled and conducted engaging, informative tours for visitors from all over the State, country, and world; and coordinated tours for constituents and guests of legislators and Capitol Complex staff. She is well-known and respected by legislators and staff throughout the Capitol Complex; and
Whereas, together with her beloved husband, John Padgett, Kathy raised two fine daughters, Anna Kathryn Padgett and Eva Blythe Padgett. In her retirement, she looks forward to spending time at the South Carolina coast, gardening, and enjoying her beloved dogs, Murray and Belle; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Kathy Padgett as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Kathryn Rogers "Kathy" Padgett upon the occasion of her retirement as manager of the South Carolina State House Tour Office, commend her for more than six years of dedicated service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Kathryn Rogers "Kathy" Padgett.
