TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF LA'DARIOUS TYRES WYLIE OF CHESTER COUNTY, WHO IN 2015, AT THE AGE OF ELEVEN, LOST HIS LIFE HEROICALLY SAVING THAT OF HIS LITTLE SISTER, AND TO DECLARE HIS BIRTHDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2022, AS "LA'DARIOUS WYLIE DAY" IN HIS MEMORY.
Whereas, on the morning of October 27, 2015, eleven-year-old La'Darious Tyres Wylie of Chester County was on his way to school with his little sister, Sha'Vonta; and
Whereas, while waiting at the bus stop near their home, La'Darious was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while pushing his sister out of the way of the driver's out-of-control vehicle; and
Whereas, having successfully saved his little sister's life, La'Darious passed away the next day at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte; and
Whereas, his grieving mother, Elizabeth McCrorey, wanting her son's death to mean something, allowed the young hero's organs to be donated. In this way, La'Darious helped save yet more lives; and
Whereas, this child's heroism, as well as his family's selfless response to the tragedy that took his life, was reported first locally and then as far away as New York City and London, England, inspiring, challenging, and otherwise blessing many people wherever the story traveled. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, celebrate the life of La'Darious Tyres Wylie of Chester County, who in 2015, at the age of eleven, lost his life heroically saving that of his little sister, and declare his birthday, November 28, 2022, as "La'Darious Wylie Day" in his memory.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of La'Darious Tyres Wylie.
