TO HONOR AND COMMEND LISA VAN RIPER FOR A LIFETIME OF ACHIEVEMENT AND AN EXEMPLARY CAREER FURTHERING THE GROWTH OF SOUTH CAROLINA STUDENTS, AND TO WISH HER MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HER ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Lisa Van Riper, the Director of Honors and Public Affairs at North Greenville University, has committed her life to public policymaking, her experience in which spans five decades, including her teaching career and work in public service; and
Whereas, among Lisa's many achievements is the development and implementation of Putting Families First under the direction of Governor David Beasley, a program designed to help individuals transferring from welfare; and
Whereas, the tenacity and devotion Lisa poured into Putting Families First was noted and honored by many. She was recognized by the National Governors Association and was awarded the highest civilian honor in South Carolina, the Order of the Palmetto, in December 1998 by Governor Beasley; and
Whereas, Lisa's impact on education stretched beyond the campus of North Greenville University as a former State Board of Education member. She also served Governor Mark Sanford for twelve years with the First Steps to School Readiness program; and
Whereas, Lisa is president of South Carolina Citizens for Life, where she dutifully fights for the legal protection of unborn and innocent human life; and
Whereas, in 2019, she received the Carroll Campbell Courage in Leadership Award, which was presented to her at the Greenville County Republican Convention; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives thank Lisa for her indefatigable service to South Carolina, its students, and its families. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and commend Lisa Van Riper for a lifetime of achievement and an exemplary career furthering the growth of South Carolina students, and wish her many years of continued success in all of her endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lisa Van Riper.
