A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR SURVIVORS OF VETERANS WHO SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES, TO EXPRESS PROFOUND GRATITUDE FOR THE SACRIFICE THAT THE SPOUSES AND FAMILIES OF AMERICA'S MILITARY HEROES HAVE MADE FOR THE PROTECTION AND ADVANCEMENT OF FREEDOM, AND TO RECOGNIZE "THE SURVIVORS OF THE FALLEN," A GATHERING TO BE HELD JUNE 5, 2021, TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES IN ANY WAR OR BETWEEN WARS.

Whereas, each year, this country honors all military veterans on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, but there is no day or hour, no guidance or ceremony set aside and dedicated to honor those whose dear ones died during or after their military service to our great nation; and

Whereas, this year, at the Gold Star Family Memorial, located at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, a special tribute will be held, "The Survivors of the Fallen: Honoring Spouses and Families of American Military Heroes"; and

Whereas, while all survivors of veterans are invited to the Saturday, June 5, event, this special tribute will be offered to honor the surviving spouses whose loved ones served in our armed forces in any war or between wars; and

Whereas, the ceremony, free of admission cost and parking fee, will be presented from ten o'clock a.m. to eleven o'clock a.m. by Medal of Honor recipient Major General Jim Livingston, USMC, Ret., and the Patriots Point Foundation; and

Whereas, it is entirely appropriate for the House to pause in its deliberations to salute those who have lost loved ones in military service, most especially the spouses of such lost loved ones. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor survivors of veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces, express profound gratitude for the sacrifice that the spouses and families of America's military heroes have made for the protection and advancement of freedom, and recognize "The Survivors of the Fallen," a gathering to be held June 5, 2021, to pay tribute to those who have lost loved ones in any war or between wars.
