TO CONGRATULATE BYRON SNELLGROVE, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE CITY OF CAYCE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OF EXEMPLARY PUBLIC SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Byron Snellgrove will begin a well-deserved retirement on December 31, 2021, after almost four decades as a law enforcement officer, the last five of which have been as Cayce's distinguished and highly-regarded public safety director; and
Whereas, some thirty-eight years ago, Byron Snellgrove began his career in law enforcement as a deputy for Beaufort County. He began serving the Cayce Department of Public Safety in April 1997 as part of the narcotics investigations team, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant; and
Whereas, he moved to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department where he led narcotics investigations and returned to Cayce's Public Safety Department in 2012 with certifications in Internal Affairs and as a police and fire instructor and an NRA instructor; and
Whereas, before accepting the role as director in 2016, he served as Public Safety lieutenant, Patrol Operations and Training Division commander for the Cayce Department of Public Safety for three years; and
Whereas, in 2016, he became the city's director of public safety and has served the citizens of Cayce well, earning and keeping agency accreditation for the department, creating a community policing initiative (COPS), creating a K-9 team, and securing numerous prestigious awards for the department and personnel; and
Whereas, Director Snellgrove is also certified as an Emergency Response to Terrorism instructor, Hazard Materials and Technician instructor, and Weapons of Mass Destructions Live Agent instructor; and
Whereas, he is a former member of the University of South Carolina Pistol Team, former state advisor of the South Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorers, and former state secretary in South Carolina Gang Investigators Associations; and
Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to the Cayce Police Department, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Byron Snellgrove as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Byron Snellgrove, Director of Public Safety for the City of Cayce, upon the occasion of his retirement after thirty-eight years of exemplary public service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Byron Snellgrove.
