A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF REVEREND MARK FERGUSON OF GREENVILLE COUNTY AND TO HONOR HIS REMARKABLE COMMITMENT TO THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE RICH MUSIC IT HAS INSPIRED.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Reverend Mark Ferguson at the age of fifty-nine; and

Whereas, born in Greenville, he was the beloved son of Marie Reynolds Ferguson and the late Charles Ferguson; and

Whereas, at the age of sixteen, Reverend Ferguson began a career in radio broadcasting, and since 1991, he served as host and programmer for Sunday in the South with Mark & Jerri Ferguson heard at 92.5 WESC/IHeart radio; and

Whereas, a member of First Baptist Mauldin, he served as a Southern gospel concert promoter, a Southern gospel music industry leader and mentor, and an ordained Baptist minister; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Jerri Ferguson, he reared two fine children, Heather Lang and Carsen Cole, and he adored his four grandchildren: Julea, Whitaker, Ellis, and Lorelai; and

Whereas, his outstanding contributions to gospel music and radio have been recognized and honored by two sitting South Carolina governors, induction into the South Carolina Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Singing News Golden Mic Award, ten consecutive nominations from the Singing News Fan Awards for the syndicated Show of the Year, and the North Greenville University Distinguished Alumni Award; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Mark Ferguson and for the example of service and ministry he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, remember and celebrate the life of Reverend Mark Ferguson of Greenville County and honor his remarkable commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the rich music it has inspired.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Reverend Mark Ferguson.
