TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR EDWIN WRIGHT, KNOWN AS "THE CHEF," FOR HIS SUCCESSFUL YEARS OF CAREER IN RADIO.
Whereas, Edwin Wright began his career in radio in the mid 1980s at local station WMCJ in Moncks Corner, where he served as the music director and host of Afternoon Drive and hosted an award-winning sports show with NFL running back and former McDonald's owner Rolland Harper; and
Whereas, he was later recruited to the Charleston radio market by the late Jessie Williams and legend Clyde Jones. He was promoted to program director and AM Drive and then to general manager at WZJY; and
Whereas, after the sale of the WZJY station, Mr. Wright took over an afternoon slot at WJNI, then Heaven FM, serving the community with shows like Stop the Madness, Stop the Violence; and
Whereas, he teamed up with the City of Charleston and its former Mayor Joe Riley to host Skate Night with Pizza Hut and Coca-Cola; and
Whereas, Mr. Wright's dedication to his community manifested itself in a wide variety of ways, including service on a community panel of North Charleston as cofounder of "It's Cool to Stay in School"; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in commending Edwin "The Chef" Wright for his outstanding contributions in radio broadcasting and his meaningful involvement in his community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Edwin Wright, known as "The Chef," for his successful years of career in radio.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Edwin "The Chef" Wright.
