TO HONOR AND CELEBRATE THE FREE MEDICAL CLINIC OF THE GREATER GREENWOOD UNITED MINISTRY AT THE COMMEMORATION OF THE CLINIC'S TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THE CLINIC FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ITS MISSION OF PROVIDING CRITICAL PRIMARY MEDICAL CARE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Free Medical Clinic of the Greater Greenwood United Ministry (GGUM) is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2022; and
Whereas, having opened the doors of its Crisis Ministry in 1995, the Greater Greenwood United Ministry inaugurated its Free Medical Clinic two years later in January 1997. The clinic, certified through the South Carolina Free Clinic Association, serves as a medical home for anyone who cannot afford health insurance yet does not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare. Thus, the Free Medical Clinic provides critical primary medical care to those who would normally seek it through the local emergency room; and
Whereas, over the past quarter century, the clinic has grown from one working day to four, gained an increased number of staff medical providers, and increased pharmacy hours with a paid pharmacist to four days a week, among other useful additions; and
Whereas, programs and services available at no cost to the patient include medical visits with primary care, internal medicine, and gynecological providers; an on-site pharmacy; diabetic education; case management; dental extractions; and lab and x-ray services. Eyeglasses and eye screenings are also provided; and
Whereas, the Free Medical Clinic is part of GGUM's overall ministry, which is funded by more than seventy partner churches. The Greater Greenwood United Ministry offers, in addition to its medical services, financial assistance to those facing rent eviction or utility disconnection; an emergency food pantry; and crisis intervention programs, including job searches and financial coaching; and
Whereas, with much gratitude, the House takes great pleasure in saluting the GGUM Free Medical Clinic, and the members join with the clinic's many admirers in celebrating its high example of compassionate, exemplary service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and celebrate the Free Medical Clinic of the Greater Greenwood United Ministry at the commemoration of the clinic's twenty-fifth anniversary and extend best wishes to the clinic for continued success in its mission of providing critical primary medical care to those who need it.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Greater Greenwood United Ministry Free Medical Clinic.
