TO COMMEND FURNITURE WAREHOUSE DESIGN GROUP OF BEAUFORT FOR FIFTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA LOWCOUNTRY AND BEYOND AND TO EXTEND WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS ON THE OCCASION OF THIS ICONIC FURNITURE STORE'S HALF-CENTURY ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Furniture Warehouse Design Group (FWDG) of Beaufort is celebrating fifty years of providing exceptional home furnishings and service and is set to continue its proud legacy; and
Whereas, rich in history, FWDG was founded in 1972 by then 20-year-old Larry Mark and his father, Ernest. The Mark family dates back to 1904 in the Beaufort area and is proud of the legacy created by three generations; and
Whereas, FWDG serves furniture needs throughout the Lowcountry area, including Beaufort, Bluffton, Hardeeville, Hilton Head, Okatie, Ridgeland, Seabrook, Walterboro, and Charleston. In addition, the business has become a source of quality home furnishings for the Coastal Empire of Georgia, including Savannah, Rincon, Port Wentworth, and Pooler; and
Whereas, while independently owned, FWDG is a member (and board member) of the award-winning nationwide cooperative Furniture First. Through this organization, FWDG passes discounts on to its customers; and
Whereas, over the years. FWDG has earned numerous awards, some of the most recent being Sea Island Rotary Club's Ethics in Business Award (2021), Furniture Today's Beyond the Top Award (2021), Explore Beaufort's Best Furniture Store Award (2020), Beaufort Gazette's Lowcountry's Best Award (2019), Eat Sleep Play Beaufort's Best Furniture Store Award (2018, 2019), and Beaufort Gazette's Reader's Choice Award (nineteen years in a row); and
Whereas, with forty-eight thousand square feet of showroom space, FWDG is one of the largest furniture stores in the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, to mark its fiftieth anniversary, in June FWDG is holding a month-long celebration featuring giveaways of its beautiful furniture. The store is also paying state sales tax for all its customers during this celebratory time; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House is grateful for the years that Furniture Warehouse Design Group has dedicated to providing quality home furnishings to Beaufort County, and the members offer best wishes for much continued success in the years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Furniture Warehouse Design Group of Beaufort for fifty years of outstanding service to the people of the South Carolina Lowcountry and beyond and extend warmest congratulations on the occasion of this iconic furniture store's half-century anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to founder and owner Larry Mark on behalf of the entire Mark family.
