A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE Reverend Jeffrey Salley upon the occasion of his promotion to District Superintendent of the Charleston District of the United Methodist Church.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Reverend Jeffrey Salley upon the occasion of his promotion to district superintendent of the Charleston District of the United Methodist Church; and

 

Whereas, a native of Walterboro, Reverend Salley was born to parents Bertha Salley and the late Vergil Salley. He is an alumnus of Claflin University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in English; Bowling Green State University, where he received his Master of Arts in Technical Writing and Cognate, Training, and Development; and Interdenominational Theological Center, where he received his Master of Divinity in Pastoral Care and Counseling; and

 

Whereas, currently the Senior Pastor of Canaan-Sand Hill United Methodist Churches in Ridgeville, Reverend Salley has served as congregational specialist for African-American Ministries and Congregational Specialist, Columbia-Hartsville Districts; senior pastor for Trinity United Methodist Church in Bennettsville; and New Hope and Saint Paul United Methodist Churches, Ridgeville; and

 

Whereas, Reverend Salley is the chairperson for the District Committee on Ordained Ministry in the Walterboro District, chair of the Scholarship Committee for the South Carolina Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, chair of the Bible Study Committee, member of the School Improvement Council of Sand Hill Elementary, and a member of the Epworth Children's Home Trustee Board; and

 

Whereas, Reverend Salley is the former director of the Bennettsville-Cheraw Area Cooperative Ministries and clergy member of the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In addition, he has served as district registrar for the Walterboro Committee on Ordained Ministry; chair of the Marion District Committee on Ordained Ministry; and a member of the Academy of Pastoral and Theological Enrichment Planning Committee in Marion District and the Committee on Conference Relations; and

 

Whereas, effective June 26, 2024, Reverend Salley will become the superintendent of the Charleston District of the South Carolina Conference for the United Methodist Church; and

 

Whereas, Reverend Salley mentors, coaches, and advises several clergy members and candidates for the ministry because he considers ministry one of society's highest and noblest callings; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Reverend Salley has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize Reverend Jeffrey Salley upon the occasion of his promotion to district superintendent of the Charleston District of the United Methodist Church.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Jeffrey Salley.
