A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CELEBRATED PERFORMER CHRIS ROCK AND TO EXTEND A PALMETTO STATE WELCOME TO THIS NATIVE SON OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS HE APPEARS AT THE NORTH CHARLESTON COLISEUM ON JANUARY 27, 2023.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to welcome South Carolina native and famed stand-up comedian Chris Rock to the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, Christopher Julius Rock was born in Andrews, South Carolina, and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of Rosalie (Tingman), a teacher and social worker for the mentally handicapped; and Julius Rock, a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman, whose own father was a preacher; and
Whereas, a famed stand-up comedian for several decades, Chris Rock is also a producer, actor, writer, and director. He made his big-screen debut in Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and spent three years in the cast of Saturday Night Live (1975). His commercials for 1-800-Collect and Nike are legendary. In addition, he covered the presidential campaign for the show Politically Incorrect (1993); and
Whereas, for his many accomplishments, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was voted the funniest person in America by Entertainment Weekly. He also was chosen as #5 in Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time; and
Whereas, further, in early 2023 he will become the first-ever comedian to perform live on Netflix in its upcoming global-streaming event; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in wishing Chris Rock many more years of success, and the members expect to hear of his flourishing career in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor celebrated performer Chris Rock and extend a Palmetto State welcome to this native son of South Carolina as he appears at the North Charleston Coliseum on January 27, 2023.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chris Rock.
