A bill
TO AMEND ACT 844 OF 1952, RELATING TO THE COMPOSITION, RESIDENCY, AND TERMS OF THE SCHOOL TRUSTEES OF CERTAIN SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN CHARLESTON COUNTY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE MOULTRIE SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2 BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHALL CONSIST OF SEVEN MEMBERS, AT LEAST THREE OF WHOM MUST BE RESIDENTS OF THE TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 3 of Act 844 of 1952 is amended to read:
Section 3. Moultrie School District No. 2 in Charleston County (which was created by the consolidation of Sullivans Island School District No. 2, and Consolidated School District No. 5, in the county, by action of the County Board of Education of Charleston County under Section 7 of Article III of Act No. 379, Acts of 1951) shall hereafter have five seven school trustees, at least one of whom shall be a resident of the Isle of Palms, at least one of whom shall be a resident of Sullivans Island, at least one three of whom shall be a resident of the Town of Mt. Pleasant, and at least one of whom shall be a resident of the remaining area included in former Consolidation Consolidated School District No. 5. The successors in office of the five school trustees of the district appointed by the County Board of Education of Charleston County under Section 7 of Article III of Act No. 379, Acts of 1951, shall be elected by the qualified electors residing in Moultrie School District No. 2 in the manner provided by law for the election of school trustees in Charleston County.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. The two additional seats on the Board of Trustees for Moultrie School District No. 2 established pursuant to this act must first be filled beginning with the 2024 General Election and for initial terms of two years.
