A house RESOLUTION
TO SALUTE THE CROSS SCHOOLS GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2022 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM'S COACHES AND RUNNERS ON A SUPERLATIVE SEASON.
Whereas, the air on your face and the ground under your feet feel different when you reach the top of the mountain. The Cross Schools Lady Stingrays found that out on October 29, 2022, when they bested all competitors to claim the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class 1A State Championship in girls cross country; and
Whereas, as they swept past older, more experienced teams at the title event, held at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, the Lady Stingrays impressed onlookers as a potential dynasty in the making. Indeed, a SCISA representative shared that, based on the scores, the young runners of Cross Schools would have won the 2022 2A title; and
Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, practice, and focused energy, Coach Wendy Cummings and her fine staff of assistant coaches, Sommer Shultzman and Amanda Hilton capitalized on their own athletic skills to mold a championship team and teach their runners lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the course; and
Whereas, making a sweet victory even sweeter, these young women made school history. It was Cross Schools' first varsity state championship in cross country, as well as the Stingrays' first varsity state title in any sport; and
Whereas, the members of the Cross Schools girls cross country team have given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the House takes great pleasure in adding its collective voice to the encomiums flowing in to this outstanding group of young athletes. Go, Stingrays! Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, salute the Cross Schools girls cross country team on capturing the 2022 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 1A State Championship title and congratulate the team's coaches and runners on a superlative season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Middle/Upper School Principal Stacie Greene, Head Coach Wendy Cummings, and Assistant Coaches Sommer Shultzman and Amanda Hilton of Cross Schools.
