A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND Sergeant Daniel Eddy OF the Myrtle Beach Police Department UPON BEING NAMED Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police officer of the Year FOR 2022 AND TO EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the exceptional work of Sergeant Daniel Eddy of the Myrtle Beach Police Department has earned him recognition as the 2022 Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Rotary; and
Whereas, the Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year Award is given annually to the police officer who has exhibited the most desirable qualities as a law enforcement officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department; and
Whereas, during 2022, Sergeant Eddy reviewed and assigned almost three hundred cases and led detectives through multiple homicide investigations, leading to a one hundred percent homicide clearance rate; and
Whereas, Sergeant Eddy has increased communication with the local solicitor's office to build a relationship that allows for better trial preparation and additional resources for the department. He has been pivotal in shaping and developing the Major Crimes Unit by bringing the team unique training opportunities, such as the annual conference for the International Association of Interviewers; and
Whereas, he has guided other agencies in both North and South Carolina to help them to develop and implement a Major Crimes Unit like the one he developed at the Myrtle Beach Police Department; and
Whereas, Sergeant Eddy's impact has been recognized with receiving the Leader of the Year award for 2022 and selection to be part of the City Manager's Employee Engagement Committee; and
Whereas, during 2022, Sergeant Eddy assisted in the development and reimplementation of the Cold Case Team by presenting to professional meetings to solicit input and seek qualified talent to help to formulate the team and by screening applicants for the startup and maintenance of the program dedicated to investigating unsolved major cases; and
Whereas, Sergeant Eddy helped to initiate the department's National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) program which has allowed detectives from his department and other departments in the area to link a gun to a crime within hours of the casing being entered into the system; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the heroism and determination of law enforcement officers and first responders like Sergeant Daniel Eddy who protect and defend our citizens, putting the safety of others above their own personal safety, and the members celebrate his selection as the Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Sergeant Daniel Eddy of the Myrtle Beach Police Department upon being named Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year for 2022 and express deep gratitude for his meritorious service to the citizens of his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sergeant Daniel Eddy.
