A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE ALICE DRIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL ON BEING NAMED THE STATE WINNER IN THE 13TH ANNUAL SAMSUNG SOLVE FOR TOMORROW STEM COMPETITIOn.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Alice Drive Middle School was selected as the state winner in the 13th Annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM Competition, an honor that comes with twelve thousand dollars in prize money for technology and school supplies; and

 

Whereas, led by the school's STEM teacher, Dr. Marina Mosneaguta, in this competition the school is focusing on a solution that will help sustain biodiversity and natural habitats in the City of Sumter; and

 

Whereas, the annual Samsung competition challenges public school students in grades 6-12 to explore the role science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) play in addressing issues of vital concern in their local communities. Project goals include having participating students engage in active hands-on learning that can be applied to real-world problems; and

 

Whereas, Alice Drive and other state winners must submit a three-minute video demonstrating how they are using STEM to address the issue raised in their project. Samsung employees will serve as mentors to the state winners on a one-to-one basis to help guide teams as they develop their projects and build a prototype; and

 

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in applauding this fine achievement of Alice Drive Middle School's STEM team and looks to hear of the team's further successes in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Alice Drive Middle School on being named the state winner in the 13th Annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM Competition.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jeannie Pressley and Dr. Marina Mosneaguta of Alice Drive Middle School.
