A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF NELLIE "JEAN" STREATER OF CHERAW, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the passing of Nellie "Jean" Streater of Cheraw on January 3, 2024, at the age of sixty-four; and
Whereas, born June 24, 1959, Nellie "Jean" Streater was a pillar of strength and an unwavering advocate for the betterment of her community, dedicating countless hours to the well-being and prosperity of Chesterfield and Marlboro counties; and
Whereas, this beacon of inspiration, embodying the spirit of selflessness and compassion, left an indelible mark through her tireless efforts in various community organizations, initiatives, and causes; and
Whereas, she was instrumental in fostering unity and building bridges within the community and brought people together with a shared vision of a stronger, more connected, and more compassionate society; and
Whereas, further, Nellie "Jean" Streater was a participant in the Comprehensive Employment Training Act program in the 1970s, offered through the Chesterfield-Marlboro Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. (CMEOC). After completion of the program, she was employed by the CMEOC on February 21, 1979; and
Whereas, during her forty-five years of service to Chesterfield and Marlboro counties, she received several staff appreciation awards and a service award for her years of dedication and diligence. Because Nellie "Jean" Streater was committed to her job and was always smiling and willing to help others, she earned another important title among those who knew her: the title of "friend"; and
Whereas, her legacy will endure through the positive changes and improvements she contributed to the educational, cultural, and social fabric of Chesterfield and Marlboro counties; and
Whereas, she leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bridget L. Emanuel; her son, Brian T. Hardison; her brother, Theodore Streater; her sisters, Martha Streater, Creolia Little, Margaret Smith, Lottie Streater, Kathleen Jefferson, and Alfreda Davis; two grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends. She will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Nellie "Jean" Streater of Cheraw, celebrate her life, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
