A house RESOLUTION
to EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Daniel Hughes "Dan" Tate AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND His MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Daniel Hughes "Dan" Tate who went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the age of seventy-six; and
Whereas, born in Rutherfordton County, North Carolina, on October 30, 1946, he was a son of the late James Dennis and Virginia Hughes Tate and was reared in a loving home in Mooresboro, North Carolina, with his brother, the late Raymond Tate; and
Whereas, Mr. Tate was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served on the church's cemetery committee and was a member of the Fellowship I Connect Group; and
Whereas, in the proud tradition of the sons of South Carolina, he served in the United States Army attached to the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, Mr. Tate was a graduate of Western Carolina University and retired from the auto industry; and
Whereas, a disabled veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 3 in Greenville and a member of the Foothills Antique Power Association; and
Whereas, Mr. Tate was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders, an organization of bikers based in the United States whose members attend the funerals of members of the United States military and first responders at the invitation of a decedent's family, with a motto of "Standing for those who stood for us." He went on over two hundred missions with the Patriot Guard; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Patricia "Patsy" Tate, he reared two fine children, Brian Lee Weathers and Jessica Tate Montjoy of Woodruff. He was blessed with the affection of seven loving grandchildren: Ashton Sloan, Madi Montjoy, Matthew Weathers, Grace Weathers, Tate Montjoy, Ella Weathers, and Harper Kate Montjoy; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Dan Tate and for the example of service and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Daniel Hughes "Dan" Tate and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel Hughes "Dan" Tate.
