A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Martha Ann Curto OF Brevard, North Carolina, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Martha Ann Curto at the age of seventy-nine on Wednesday, February 28, 2024; and
Whereas, born in Transylvania County in North Carolina on October 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Guiseppe Curto and Leila Lola Sexton, and she was reared in a large and loving home with seven siblings, all of who preceded her in death; and
Whereas, Ms. Curto graduated from Brevard High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in secondary education and a master's degree from Clemson University in elementary education; and
Whereas, with her stellar training, she was delighted to teach so many amazing elementary students for over forty-five years both in Greenville and Pickens counties and in Transylvania County of North Carolina; and
Whereas, one of Ms. Curto's proudest moments was being named a "Memorable Educator" by multiple previous students. Her loving and caring demeaner was evident in her classrooms, as well as in her everyday life; and
Whereas, she was the wife of the late Ronald Whitmire, and she reared two fine sons, Rick T. Caldwell II of Aiken and Joseph Bradley Caldwell of Pickens. Her children blessed her with the affection of three loving granddaughters: Ansley Caldwell, Ellie Caldwell, and Lily Caldwell; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Martha Curto and for the example of service and excellence she set for all who knew her Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Martha Ann Curto of Brevard, North Carolina, and extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Martha Ann Curto.
