A house RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE PEE DEE ACADEMY VARSITY BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR AN IMPRESSIVE SEASON AND TO CELEBRATE THE EAGLES' CAPTURE OF THE 2023 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Pee Dee Academy varsity boys baseball team took top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association Class 3A State Championship competition on Friday, May 19, 2023, defeating Williamsburg Academy in the best-of-three series; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Eagles hoisted a championship trophy that crowned the Pee Dee baseball program's 2023 season and testified to its latest state title win, the fourth in school history. This latest addition to the baseball team's trophy case will join the program's previous state title hardware, awarded for championship wins in 2017, 2018, and 2022; and

Whereas, demonstrating courage, drive, and pure heart, the Eagles turned in a marvelous performance of teamwork, keeping the excited crowd enthralled. They outplayed Williamsburg two games to one ─ 5-3 in the deciding Game 3; and

Whereas, to make a sweet victory even sweeter, Pee Dee Academy's John Hucks, Gavin Oakley, Colby Richardson, and Landyn Tyler were named 2023 Baseball All-Stars; and

Whereas, over the course of the season, Head Coach Brian Davis and his outstanding assistant coaches, Dan Barker, Kelvin Oakley, Rodney Rogers, and Danny Barker, built their ballplayers into a championship machine and urged their young players to give it their all. They did and it paid; and

Whereas, proud of these fine student athletes, the South Carolina House takes great pleasure in applauding the Pee Dee Academy varsity boys baseball team, and the members look forward with anticipation to hearing of many more victories for the school in coming seasons. Go, Eagles! Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Pee Dee Academy varsity boys baseball team for an impressive season and celebrate the Eagles' capture of the 2023 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 3A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head of School Allyson Carmichael and Head Coach Brian Davis of Pee Dee Academy.
